Новости - Ubuntu Linux - Проект Ubuntu Mobile рассматривает возможность перехода на Qt/KDE

В своем докладе на конференции linux.conf.au David Mandal из компании Canonical рассказал о рассмотрении возможности перевода Ubuntu Mobile с платформы GNOME Mobile (Hildon framework) на кодовую базу, основанную на Qt 4.5. Ранее использование библиотеки Qt было затруднено из-за лицензионных ограничений, но ситуация в корне изменилась после объявления о выходе Qt 4.5 под лицензией LGPL. Разработчики Ubuntu Mobile заинтересованы в интеграции более совершенной, чем Hildon, системы экранного ввода. В настоящее время компании Nokia и Intel уже интенсивно работают в плане замены Hildon, выбор Ubuntu скорее всего будет зависеть от того, как в дальнейшем будет развиваться ситуация. Кроме системы ввода, отмечается, что приложения KDE лучше адаптируются для низких экранных разрешений, по сравнению с GNOME.

Новости - OpenSource - Вышел apt-dater 0.7.0

apt-dater — это интерфейс на основе ncurses для управления обновлением пакетов на большом количестве удаленных хостов посредством SSH. Поддерживаются системы, управляемые dpkg/apt, а также rug (OpenSUSE) и yum (CentOS). Лаконично о поводе к релизу: добавлена функция автообновления, улучшен поиск и страница «Подробности», добавлен минимальный клиент для WUA, а также устранена утечка памяти.

Новости - Linux General - Google поможет определить, ограничивает ли ваш провайдер BitTorrent

Сервис пытается определить ограничения на трафик, связанные именно с протоколом. В будущем планируется тестировать не только BitTorrent, но и на другие протоколы: Glasnost attempts to detect whether your Internet access provider is performing application-specific traffic shaping. Currently, you can test if your ISP is throttling or blocking BitTorrent. Tests for other applications will follow soon.

Notifixious' Superfeeder: Getting Closer to the Real-Time Web - ReadWriteWeb

RSS feeds have become the backbone of the Web 2.0 movement, but as we are moving towards a real-time experience on the web, RSS is starting to show its age. To update your subscriptions, you have to regularly poll these feeds. This, of course, is a major problem for RSS readers and notification services which often have to deal with a substantial lag before new posts and messages appear. The newest service that tries to tackle this problem is Notifixious, but as Notifixious founder Julien Genestoux explains, a lot of problems still need to be fixed before ubiquitous real-time notifications can become a reality.
